What could be an inspiring story to write as my first article on my brand new website? Perhaps looking back at the journey I have taken to get here (in one piece!).
One of my favourite stories (and if you have been my friend for awhile you know this) is a Japanese tale about challenge. The story makes an analogy between the taste of a fish when they’re fighting for their lives compared to when they gave up on life. It seems that the fish that are challenged and have to fight for their lives taste so much better than the ones that already accepted death. The tale invites us to put a shark in our fish tanks to be able to challenge ourselves and feel alive.
I love this story because, to me, it makes heaps of sense. Passion and challenge is what makes us alive and irresistible. It’s what makes us breathe.
As soon as we reach our goals, such as finding a wonderful partner, starting a successful company, paying off our debts, we might lose our passion. We don’t need to work so hard, so we relax.
The reality is that man thrives in the presence of a challenging environment. Life then becomes more exciting and we feel alive again. Therefore we taste “better”.
I resigned from my corporate gig (and perhaps corporate life?) on the 22nd June 2016. I worked 14 years in Marketing, doing some amazing things and working with so many incredible people. But it was time to go, and life was pretty bloody clear about that. So, I decided to take the leap of faith, I heard my heart telling me that was the right move and I thought: “F%&$, let’s do it!” and then my full time journey started.
I have being doing Reiki for a long time and reading people for as long as I can remember. I did start as the weird kid reading palms and cards at school with no proper training. I have always being spot-on, to the point that people would keep staring at me for months after my “consultations”. Then it was just a matter of time for me to start helping and healing friends and family around me.
A few years back, I was introduced to NLP, which when combined with Reiki, I noticed how strong my abilities to read and help people became. I was then ready to start using my abilities to help even more people and that gave me the confidence to start a full journey. I trusted my instincts and threw myself into the deep end, and I don’t feel like looking back.
Nowadays I feel complete. I work from home and I’m absolutely passionate about what I do, I run my own charity along side my mate Will (WILL2LIVE), Tim and I are expecting our first baby, our families and friends are doing well and we have a cat. Life is pretty damn good right now.
Working hard? Yes, always. I probably have never worked this hard. I do meditate at the beach everyday, but I work 12+ hours a day, however I don’t feel that I’m working. And I honestly never believe that story before.
So, if you got to the bottom of this text, I would love to thank you. Because I know I could never been here if I didn’t have the people around me that give me love and support in everything I do. I’m grateful for my life, my “tribe” and for being fortunate enough to find my path in life. And the joy is just starting now: now it’s time to give back to life, help as many people as I can and invite my friend, the shark into my fish tank one more time. I’m ready and more excited than ever about the next big challenge to come ☺
Love
Em xx
